St. Philip Neri Catholic Parish

Lectors are to possess a deep love of Scripture and live out their lives grounded in the Word of God. They prepare the readings for the liturgy with study, prayer, reflection, and practice. New Lectors are added as needed to the existing group after exploring the practice and responsibilities of this ministry during periodic formation and training sessions. A variety of experiences are offered to facilitate growth and understanding of this liturgical ministry.

    Dear Liturgical Ministers,

    Several reminders:

    • All Liturgical Ministers:  Please check to make sure we have the correct phone number for you. If it is incorrect or if you wish to change numbers, please send an email or call Deacon Mike Franks with the correct phone number.
    • Lectors should check in with each other in the sacristy before Mass.
    • Servers should be in the sacristy and vested 15 min. before the start of Mass.
    • Older Youth Servers please do your best to assist our younger servers.  If your name appears on the schedule with + next to your name, then we have designated you as a Senior Server with the duty to assist younger servers assigned with you.
    • All Ministries:  If you are unable to attend a scheduled Mass please find a substitute.  Do not call the parish office, Linda Franks or Deacon Franks or Deacon Kennedy asking them to find someone.  It is your responsibility to make sure the assigned Mass is covered.
    • Eucharistic Ministers are reminded to please be aware of their assigned positions.
    • Eucharistic Ministers are asked to be aware that there will be times when there may be additional ministers (in Alb and cincture) in the sanctuary.  If that is the case, we may not need the full complement of EMs that are scheduled.  If the extra person is standing on the altar platform next to the priest or deacon that will indicate that they will be assisting with Holy Communion and someone should stay back.  I know it is confusing, but we do not like to have to send folks back once they have come forward.
    • Eucharistic Ministers at 7:30 AM Sunday Mass are asked to please note that on Sundays when Holy Communion is distributed under both forms that we will use only 4 cups.

If you will be unable to serve during April, May or June 2020 please let us know by March 1, 2020.

Again, thank you all for your dedication in assisting at Sunday Mass.

    Linda Franks

  • Click here for view the dress code

The parish Liturgy Committee with approval of the Pastoral Staff has developed the following dress guidelines for anyone who serves as a minister at liturgical functions:

Men: Collared shirt (tie and coat are appropriate), neat dress or casual pants and shoes.

Women: No bare shoulders, no spaghetti straps, no short skirts, no jeans, no tank tops, tasteful sandals

Altar servers: No athletic shoes, no spaghetti straps no shirts with writing, no T-shirts, no flip-flops, no shorts, no jeans

Of course, there are exceptions.  In an emergency, we may be pressed into service at times other than those we are assigned.  At these times, we respond no matter what we are wearing.  However, we should make every effort to be aware of this possibility and dress accordingly whenever possible.

We, the faithful of Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church, in communion with our Holy Father, shepherd of the universal Church, and our Archbishop, shepherd of the Church in Philadelphia, proclaim to everyone the Good News that Jesus Christ is the Light of the world, who offers to all who follow him the light of life.
