HISTORICAL COMMITTEE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

 

1. Were you a member of St. Philip Neri Parish since birth?

2. If not, how long have you been a parishioner?

3. How long did your parents live in the Valley and when did they first become parishioners?

4. Did you attend St. Philip Neri School?

5. What are you earliest memories of the parish?

6. Who do you first remember as pastor of the parish?

7. What were some of the activities in the parish?

8. Do you know any current parishioners who were also early members of the parish/school?

9. Did you attend school with any current parishioners?

10. Do you have any old photos from the parish or any of the events in the parish?

11. Could you share with us what you remember about the parish, the administration, the school staff, etc.

12. Are there any historical facts you could share with us?

13. What was the “Valley” like?

14. What can you tell us about some of the Spiritual events (Mass, Sacraments) and social events in the parish.

15. Do you know anything about the bingo games with live chickens?

 

 

The Historical Committee is looking for articles of historical significance pertaining to St. Philip Neri Church and School, for example: Sacramental documents and religious items from Green Lane Chapel and East Greenville Church. Items from the school might be old yearbooks or pictures.

 

These items will be displayed in a locked glass case in the Parish Hall and/or the Catholic Family Life Center during the time of our 100th Anniversary in 2019. Items can be loaned temporarily or donated to the church.

When we meet: The historical committee meets on the third Thursday of the month. Our meeting room is located in the bottom floor of the Catholic Family Life Center, next to the library.

BINGO:

Leader: Kelly Wright

 

Description: BINGO  is held on the first Sunday of each month in the Parish Hall.

 

Doors open at 12 Noon with games beginning at 1:00 PM. It is open to parishioners and the general public.

 

The kitchen serves a variety of food and beverages.

The committee is comprised of volunteers from the Parish and meet on a monthly basis in the rectory. 2018 Highlights: The 2018 car show will be Friday, July 27th, starting with registration at 3:00 p.m. and running until 9:00 p.m. Awards at 8:00 p.m. (must be present to win) Top 100 Awards, Door Prizes, Special Awards, Pastor's Choice Award, Dash Plaques. Don't miss... Great Food Flea Market Live Music by Hodge Podge No alcohol. No hot rodding. No pets. No early entry. All vehicles must be must be licensed and insured. SILVER SPIRITS TRAVEL CLUB:

Description: A Parish based Travel Club that meets two times a year to plan two or more bus trips for parishioners here at St. Philip Neri Parish.

GARDEN CLUB:

Description: There are 10 members in the Garden Club.  We meet every Wednesday at 5:00 pm March through October.

 

We maintain the grounds around the church, social hall and rectory.  Care of the grounds includes: planting (flowers, shrubs & trees), weeding, watering, mulching; edging, trimming (trees & bushes) and whatever else might be necessary.

 

We also have a spring and fall cleanup and invite all the parishioners to participate.

 

If you enjoy the outdoors and gardening, we invite you to join our group on Wednesday's from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm (weather pending) beginning April and continuing thru October. If this does not fit into your schedule, feel free to come out on another day! For more information or to find out what we do or how you can be of assistance. Call Lee Johnson (number above).

LAWN CARE:

Description: Dedicated parishioner volunteers mow selected areas of the parish grounds on a weekly basis during late spring into early autumn.

 

Equipment is housed and maintained in a secure garage on the parish grounds.

 

Anyone who wishes to volunteer their time, call the leader, Bob Ellis.

LIBRARY:

Description: The Joyful Heart Lounge and Library located in the Catholic Family Life Center, provides adults a place to work, read, relax or gather with friends. Wi-Fi is available, so bring your own computer.

 

Check out our wide selection of religious books, tapes and CDs.

 

Coffee, tea, drinks and snacks are available free of charge.

BLOOD DRIVE: Leader: Pete Frank Contact info: 215-679-6942 or thefranks1@comcast.net Description: Blood Drive is held the last Monday in the month of August with volunteers from the Parish making the necessary phone calls to solicit people to donate blood prior to the donation date.

Description: The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic family service organization open to all practical Catholic gentleman 18 years or older.

 

  • The order was founded by a Catholic priest, the venerable Michael J. McGivney, in New Haven, CT in 1882.
  • The principles of the order are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
  • The council meets on the second Sunday of the month, at 7:30PM, in our meeting room in the basement of the rectory.
